Mission
The mission of The Emerson School, a K-5, multi-age, public elementary school, is to provide a developmentally appropriate, meaningful and challenging education for a diverse group of children in an environment that recognizes, values and responds to their individual abilities and needs. We will nurture compassionate, capable and life-long learners who see themselves as being engaged members of their communities whose actions can make a positive difference.

Program
The Emerson School’s innovative educational program is composed of several unique qualities:

A project based program which integrates real-world problem solving, purposeful experiences, collaboration, and students' interests, in addition to state benchmarks and standards.

Direct instruction in reading, writing, and math.

Strong school-home-community connections.

The use of the community as classroom, providing exploration and study within the community.

The integration of community service projects into the learning experience.

Small school setting and mixed-ages classes with a maximum of 22 students per class.

The study of topics that are directly relevant to the lives of our students

Downtown location, close to public transit and extensive resources which allow for exploration, study, and project work within the community.

Students who come from all quadrants of the district, creating a diverse population of students and families.
