Service learning is an integrated component of every project at The Emerson School.
Students at The Emerson School are immersed in service to their community. As part of every project study, students are asked to use the knowledge they have gained to make a positive difference in the world around them. As part of a study of trash and recycling, our k/1 students helped set up the recycling center at a nearby preschool. While studying bookmaking, a 2/3 class collected gently used books to donate to a community school library in need.
In addition to the service learning associated with every academic project, there are two days scheduled each year to engage the entire school community in service. From pulling ivy and planting trees or filling bags at the Oregon Food Bank, to making warm scarves for homeless neighbors or singing songs for residents of a care facility; our students understand the difference they can make in the world.
